We recently learned about Hammurabi and his code. Here are some examples of Hammurabi's laws:
If any one is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death.
If any one bring an accusation of any crime, and does not prove what he has charged, he shall, if a capital offense charged, be put to death.
If any one steal cattle or sheep, the theif shall pay thirtyfold. If the sheep belonged to a freed man of the king, then the theif shall pay tenfold. If the theif has nothing with which to pay, he shall be put to death.

I think most of Hammurabi's code is kind of unfair. Most of the laws are more severe when the crimes are commited against people higher in social classes. Accidental things, such as the carpenter and the falling house that killed the owner, I think are truly unfair. Seriously, think about it: It was an accident, and sometimes it's not even the carpenter's fault. The cutting off a surgeon's hand if the operation kills the paitent law wasn't very fair either. Not all surgeries are a success. Some surgeries have little chance of success (I watch a lot of Discovery Health), and some have no success at all.
I am very glad we don't use Hammurabi's laws today!
I think Hammurabi's code is sort of fair.I dont like the law that if you accuse someone of murder and they are found not giltly you die.I think something else should happen if a surgeon kills a freeman.I think the law about adding water is harsh.

I think hammurabis code is fair because i think the only unfair one is the surgeon one courtney has a good point about the surgeon not all surgeries are a sucess I mean theres a risk for everything

I think that Hummurabi's code is fair and unfair, its is fair because it would help the city become a safer place and it would also make sence because if you do something bad you should get punished but then on the other hand it is unfair because the punishments for some crimes are not readosable.
I think his codes are really weard and his laws.
Hammurabis laws are fair in some ways.For instance, if you are careless and the house you build for someone falls on them you should have a punishment but if there is a storm and the house is blown over. The only law that i really dont like is the one where it says"if a boy strikes his father,his hand will be cut off."Yes,the boy should be punished but that is a little exterme. Maybe people back then thought it was the approprite punishment but I think that its a little crazy.
I think Hammurabis's code is unfair. Just because someone did something to you, that does not mean you sholud it back to them, that just causes a bigger conflict, rather than a resolution. Ever heard of ' two wrongs don't make a right'? Obviously, Hammurabi hasn't. Especially the laws about accidents I think are really unfair. The law about the storm knocking down a house, faalling on the owner and killing them, is not fair. It isn't like the carpenter purposley built the house unstable just because he wanted it to fall on the owner. Somethings are accident, not everything in the world is a success.
I think Hammurabi's laws are unfair because, the punishment is not judged by the crime it's judged by how important you are and, the level of your class.
I think tha some of Hammurabi codes were harsh. Like if you hit you father you get your hand cut off!!! I used to hit my parents and all they did was put me in my room for a while intill i said sorry. I think some of Hammursbis code were way off. Like if a nun was caught going into a wine store or drinking wine got burned!!! Gosh why cant a nun cut lose somtimes they do all kinds of work.
But i can say that i do understand if a bulider was careless and the house collasped and killed some one i think that they should be put to death or be givin the injerues that have been caused.
I'm just very thankfull that our goverment steped up a lot on some of these penaltys. LOL :)
Some of the laws are truly unfair especially the robbery. If someone had stolen something or someone, and the victim was perfectlly unharmed and the robber was found would he have to die? why, if the victim was killed then the suspect would probably suffer the consequnces by being put to death, that would of made more sense.
i think the laws are really unfair. You die if you commit robbery and that you get a punnishment of a robery the same as if you press a charge and cant prove it you could die

I think that some of the Hammurabi's code were a little strict. But some things I think that the eye for an eye rule is pretty good. I mean if some cauzed harm to another person I don't think that they should almost get away with it like just spending a couple years in jail or some thing.

I think Hammurabis code is somwhat far. Its still a little more than I thought it would be.I think it is unfair that they have higher classes and the higher class doesn't get so much damage.Sometimes people get blamed for what other people thought they did.However some laws are okay,like,getting what they did happen to them .Sometimes its an okay thing to do but other times it gets out of hand.

I think that the one of the laws you put up are very unfair. The first one is fair becuase if some one is caught when committing a robbery then he should be put to death. Hammurabis code is very strange. I read that there was a code that if a son hit his father they cut his hands off that is crazy.

If we had hammurabi's code then most of us would be dead or are hands would be cut off. Thus making the population much lower. For example if I cut off my mothers hand I shall die.
I dont belive this was fair to everyone if I cut off my moms hands then mine should be cut off. I should not be put to death even if I am a low class and thats what I think about his code. But if I was a person in a high class maybe then I should be put to death not when I am a kid thats just wrong. If I steal i should be coantained until I am 18 or older thats what should happen to kids until they are adults. So thats why i think it's cruler than are laws if a kid commits murder he should be coantained.

Laws are made to provide people with a set of guidelines by which to carry out their daily lives. Hammurabi was a ruler who chiefly established the greatness of Babylon. Hammurabi's code was carved upon a black stone monument and clearly intended to be reared in public view. These codes help to keep reign on the organization of society. Which I feel is appropriate according to the time era.
I think Hammurabi's code is unfair because if a rich man committed most of these crimes, he would have to pay. If his slave committed these crimes, the punishment was brutal! They would have their hands cut off or be put to death for the same crime as the other guy. The laws should be the same for everyone.
